On a golden afternoon in 1864, Alice Liddell went on a magical tour. Whilst being rowed in a boat, she heard a story about a rabbit in a nice coat. SANITATION & TYPHOID IN OXFORD (1850-1887)
Poor drainage and the lack of sewers meant that low-lying parts of Oxford were described as “a swamp converted into a cesspool” in 1850. See the changes in water and sanitation structures that transformed the city.
